Founded in 1966, Institution Food House, Inc. (IFH) is the largest independently owned broad-line food service distributor based in the Carolinas
The first IFH distribution center was constructed in Hickory, NC in 1972. A small food service distributor in Dillon, South Carolina was acquired in 1982, and a new distribution facility was built in 1988 in Florence, SC. In 1997, when MDI moved to a new and expanded distribution center, IFH renovated the former MDI site to create a larger distribution center for IFH. To facilitate IFH's continued growth, this center was further expanded in 2003 and in 2004. IFH's Florence distribution center was enlarged in a new facility which opened in 2006.
IFH's customers range from fine dining establishments to casual restaurants, quick serve restaurants, hotels, school systems, and health care providers. It has approximately 6,000 customers concentrated in North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. In a competitive marketplace, IFH emphasizes superior customer service and "hassle free delivery." In addition to traditional delivery services, IFH offers customers many value-added services. Its corporate chefs and registered dietitians develop customer-specific menus and assist customers with meal planning.
