Alex Lee, Inc. is a food retail and distribution company that traces its heritage to Moses George, a Lebanese immigrant who became a successful grocery store operator and wholesaler in Lincolnton and Shelby, North Carolina. In 1931, he helped his sons Alex and Lee George acquire the Merchants Produce Company in Hickory, North Carolina, and thus began the company that would evolve to become Alex Lee, Inc. named after the two brothers.
This privately held family business is a diversified holding company with three primary food distribution and retail operating companies servicing North and South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The two primary operating companies are Merchants Distributors, Inc. (wholesale grocery distributor) and Lowe's Food Stores, Inc. (grocery retailer with over 100 stores). In addition Consolidation Services (a third-party logistics and service provider) operates as a division of MDI.
Moses George had the philosophy that: "If your customers are successful and your suppliers are successful, then you will be successful." This is the foundation for our continued commitment to superior customer service, quality products, and competitive prices.
